A guitar kept since 1979 changes hands

After Joe Martin’s show in Flore, the organiser went home and came back with a Fylde. The gift came with a wish: take it on tour.

Joe Martin finished a gig in the village of Flore on Saturday with something considerably larger than a souvenir. The organiser said there was a gift, rushed home and returned with a Fylde guitar.

In Martin’s account, the organiser had owned it since 1979. Martin initially protested that it was too much to accept. The owner insisted, wanting the instrument to be used on Martin’s tours.

The next stop is the Fylde workshop. Martin plans to take the guitar back to be fixed up, and writes with evident disbelief at the generosity of the exchange.

The post’s photographs put the instrument alongside the evening that preceded it. A show in a village, an owner willing to part with a guitar kept for decades, and a musician with somewhere to take it: a Sunday story with its next journey still ahead.

White Noise

The download that kept coming back

Max reports fixing an attachment-cache bug in White Noise that repeatedly downloaded files, cleared the cache and downloaded all the files again.

The accompanying advice to Nostr developers is practical: Occasionally check your bandwidth usage, it can get out of hand.

The post says the bug is fixed; it does not name a release version.

Search through a lens

Personal search is here. Trending is still a plan.

David describes existing web-of-trust keyword search through NIP-50: a query can name an observer alongside the usual author, kind and time filters.

Trending remains on the roadmap. David suggests combining reactions, replies and zaps from verified sources, with the aim of producing lists that are personal and less vulnerable to spam.

GrapheneOS

A choice at the clipboard

Final reports that the clipboard update has reached the stable channel.

In the discussion, Final distinguishes the default behaviour from an alternative setting: The other setting is Paste only which blocks that access.

A separate reply identifies the compatibility concern as apps that automatically paste from another app. A new control has arrived; the default, Final says, remains the same as upstream Android for now.

Gatherings

Bring something people can try

Bitfest is looking for practical contributions to its Manchester gathering: demonstrations, tools to build with, and teaching that leaves the room more capable.

The organisers put the invitation plainly: If you’re working on something practical and want to bring it to Manchester, reply or get in touch.

The request gives a prospective contributor a useful brief. Bring an activity people can do, with something they can carry into their own work afterwards.

Independent media

An appeal to keep going

The Progressive Bitcoiner says messages from listeners have prompted it to reconsider its plans and explore sustainable funding.

Many have reached out, many wanting us to keep going. We didn’t realize to what extent.

The account is seeking people who might support or take part in a larger operation. It remains an exploration: the post announces a search for funding, with no confirmed restart date or schedule.

The mountain that was always there

Jeff Goodchild’s essay The Bluff begins with a return to Biggenden, Queensland, for a school reunion. A photograph of Mount Walsh becomes a watercolour, and then a way of looking again at a childhood landmark.

In the painting, the cloud gradually takes over. The mountain remains, but the relationship has changed.

Goodchild writes: You also discover that you are looking at something you once knew without really seeing it.

400 notes. None in common.

The same 24-hour window, read without your lens, returned 400 notes. None appeared among the 400 ranked notes read for this edition.

This compares the two note selections, not all 668 events across the desks. It records a different selection of the day; it does not measure everything the network posted. The stories on this page are a further editorial choice.
