Zapstore · A smaller way to stay current

1.5 MB. Just keep the apps up to date.

Zaplite leaves out browsing, social features and even an “update all” button. Its stated job is to keep apps current on older, less powerful Android devices.

The feature list is mostly a list of absences. Zapstore’s new lightweight client has no search by name, no browsing, no screenshots, no profiles and no zaps. The announcement ends with the entire proposition: Just keeping up to date.

At a stated 1.5 MB, Zaplite is designed for low-powered devices and older Android versions, with modest storage and bandwidth use. It also leaves out Tor, privacy reports, permission lists and uninstalling. The small download comes with a deliberately narrow remit.

The app listing says the checks before installation remain: event signature, file hash and APK signing certificate. An update must carry the same certificate as the installed app. Those are the project’s described checks, not a security audit by this paper.

The launch shares a reading window with a service interruption. Zapstore reported server trouble on Saturday, then announced services back online. The recovery note said the relay should be healthy and the cause was still being investigated.

Mostro · Dispute handling

The helper gathers the case. A person decides.

Mostro introduces Serbero, a helper that gets disputes to solvers, talks with both parties about a payment and helps them close a trade themselves. Cases needing a person are handed over with a summary.

The announcement draws a clear boundary: the final decision stays with a human solver, and Serbero never moves funds.

The Sunday kitchen

Volunteering to make the wedding cake has brought an old trade back into the kitchen. The post describes the practical nuisance of decorating at home, alongside the pleasure of having the equipment to do it again.

From the workshop

Routstr · Experimental privacy

Carry the prompt without reading it

Juraj describes a confidential mode for Routstr in which the client establishes an encrypted connection to the upstream AI provider while the intermediary relays encrypted records. In the proposed arrangement, the proxy adds its API credential without seeing the prompt or answer.

The release note says the mechanism also prevents the intermediary changing responses, including tool calls, and uses proofs to bind the model and token cap. But it labels the work plainly: It's new and experimental, so please try it and tell me what breaks.

A subsequent update places availability on Juraj’s node, with wider use still hoped for. Another post reports that Graspable has already adopted it.

These are the developer’s claims. The described protection is against the intermediary; the upstream AI service still receives the request. No independent security review is reported here.

Road reports

Small enough for a radio packet

Juraj proposes keeping road-report events compact enough to fit a MeshCore packet, so a local relay could turn radio reports into signed Nostr events when internet service is unavailable.

The post offers to change protocol and even app branding to reach a shared format. It is a proposal for interoperability, rather than an announcement that the radio path has shipped.

On the bench

The last 0.125 mm

Dr. Hax reports adding button guides after a case prototype allowed the buttons to tip when pressed. The next adjustments support the display and tighten the circuit-board fit, by 0.125 mm on each side. A separate reply identifies the project as a NiceTOTP case.

Documentation

An app’s hidden doors get a map

Dee Kay opens an Amethyst reference manual organised into twelve planned posts, from gestures and menus to relays and group chats. The index promises the place to tap, what happens next and the caveat to know.

Many chapter links are still marked pending. The menus chapter is in today’s corpus; the whole twelve-part series should not be mistaken for a finished publication.

Independent music

STRAY finds its company

Ivy Lumi releases STRAY, their ninth song as an independent singer-songwriter, with an official music video. The accompanying account connects the work to finding a place between an old life and an uncertain new one, and to adopting a stray this year.

The credits name Hans and Kath for vocals, Hans for minimalist production, and Lisa Luna for choreography and dancing. A behind-the-scenes documentary is promised later; the song and video are the release available now.

In the margins

Whose cliché was it first?

waxwing wonders whether reading so much AI-generated prose is making their own writing sound like it. Useful ideas still earn a read, but authorship changes how the effort behind a text is understood.

Kevin Ravensberg offers the reverse explanation: the models learned their clichés from people. The exchange leaves writers with an awkward question about which way the imitation runs.

In brief · On the calendar · The exchange

365 mornings, one account

Dreiberge marks a year on Nostr with 365 good-morning posts, photographs and glimpses of everyday life. A reply recalls the trigger: a talk in Ingolstadt, followed by signing up on the journey home.

The skirt that won’t be worn

In another note, Dreiberge finishes a handmade skirt after waiting for buttons, then finds that it does not feel right to wear. The time and materials have bought experience rather than a place in the wardrobe. Making something yourself does not oblige you to like the result.

On the exchange

A painting, a pair of shades

isolabellart lists REFRAIN, an original oil painting on a 40 × 40 cm board, for 670,000 sats. The seller describes a view from Chiavari’s beach after sunset. The active listing offers shipping at no additional charge.

Smaciu’s Ray-Ban RB 3025 Aviator sunglasses are €70, with €10 shipping or collection in Arezzo. The seller describes them as unused because the fit was too tight, with case and cloth included.

Prices, condition and availability are the sellers’ descriptions.

The Instrument

One note in common

The ranked notes desk returned 399 events and the anonymous control returned 400. One appeared in both. Across fourteen desks, the reading contains 637 events from 228 voices.

Twenty-four hours ending Sunday, October 11 at 13:24, Europe/Vilnius. All editorial events fall within that window. These counts describe this reading, not the whole network.

At the radio desk

25 requests paid for

Noderunners Radio reports 344 songs in its Saturday tally, twenty-five requested and paid for by listeners. The selections run from Max Nijman to Noisia: a station log with its listeners’ fingerprints on it.

Yesterday’s print attempt produced no issue because its bounded relay reading was empty. Today’s reading returned fresh material; no older corpus was substituted.
